Stephanie is a self-taught photographer. She was encouraged and guided by important Montreal photographers, and participated in intensive workshops at the Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester, NY and The Maine Photographic Workshop, in Rockport, Maine. Always wanting to travel and intrigued by other cultures and ways of life, her photography allowed her to explore, discover and report on the lives and challenges of the people in many developing and some war torn countries. She documented aid and relief as well as development projects for Canadian organizations such as CIDA, CARE Canada, WUSC, and IDRC, to name a few.
For Stephanie, photography is a way of connecting with people, whether through documentary or commercial photography i.e. portraits, corporate, or photos to help businesses promote their services, their products, or their values.
In her personal work, she has always been drawn to the richness and the resilience of the human spirit. She was co-founder of the Montreal gallery Dazibao, Centre de photographie actuelle. Her work has been shown in exhibitions, and she was invited to speak about her work at the Presentation Gallery in Vancouver, at the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography in Ottawa, and at Vanier College.
