The history of L.L.Lozeau
L.L.Lozeau was founded in 1927 by Leo Laurent Lozeau, primarily as a wedding photography, film development and photo processing concern. Beginning in 1940, Mr. and Mrs. Lozeau started to expand their offerings. Continuing to offer film development and printing services, they began to sell cameras and photographic accessories.
Lise, Mr. and Mrs. Lozeau's daughter, began working in 1964 with her parents, ensuring the continued presence of the family in the business. At the same time, L.L.Lozeau discontinued their black and white photo finishing operation, preferring to concentrate on selling cameras and photographic accessories.
The senior Lozeau's retired from the business in 1973, and Lise and her husband Jean Simard took over management of the store. In 1979, L.L.Lozeau innovated by purchasing the Quebec's first "one hour" film laboratory for the processing and printing of color film. They also acquired in 1981 the first 90 minute E-6 slide processing laboratory.
In 1993, Manon and Stéphane Simard marked the arrival of a third generation of the family into the photographic business. Also at that time, the company embarked on a new era in photography with the introduction of Quebec's first center for digital cameras and digital image processing, calling it: "Informatimage".
The year 1996 brought with it the revolutionary new Advanced Photo System (APS). Once again, L.L.Lozeau was Canada's first photo service to provide APS photo processing in its own laboratories.
L.L.Lozeau was honored at the Mercuriades competition in 1999, organised by the Quebec Chamber of Commerce, with the prestigious Mercure trophy for best customer service. They were also among the three businesses nominated in the mid-size business category for the "Honneur et Mérite" competition, organised by the East-End Montreal Chamber of Commerce.
The E-mage ® service makes its appearance in 2001 on the Internet site. This option makes it possible for our customers to use the services of a professional laboratory for the impression of their photos and this, starting from a personal computer.
During the year 2004, L.L.Lozeau moved! A new 36,000 sq.ft. store located at 6229, St-Hubert Street was built with the concern of details in order to offer its visitors, a totally unique shopping experience. L.L.Lozeau represents the biggest retail surface dedicated to photographic products in Quebec, animated by a team of more than 170 people whom are entirely dedicated to the service of its customers.
In April 2008, a new step forward is taken : Lozeau.com becomes a transactional website.
In 2009, always on the cutting edge of technology, L.L. Lozeau acquires the first HD laboratory in Canada. Moreover, an historic moment happens on April 2009, Lozeau unveils its new brand image : Lozeau, l'expérience photo vidéo. Finally, in May 2009, the first Photo and Video show is organized by L.L. Lozeau and held at the Palais des Congrès.
In addition, it’s officially in 2009 that the business begins the passing from the second to the third generation.
Lozeau still innovates in 2010 with the implementation of modern digital showcases reflecting our passion for imaging technologies.
Today, with more than 85 years of experience, the family business has become respected in Quebec's photographic world and has earned a well-deserved reputation for technical quality and excellence. Its success is based upon the competence, quality and training of its personnel.
